Alex Mandel

Director - Chemistry Abdera Therapeutics

Alex Mandel leads chemistry efforts for a new initiative developing targeted radiotherapeutics. His work focuses on radioimmunotherapy, which delivers radiation directly to tumor sites, combining the potency of radiotherapy with molecular targeting. These complex modalities present significant intellectual challenges, requiring careful integration of chemistry, biology, and physics. Since 2002, Alex has built deep expertise in synthetic chemistry, experimental design, and managing multiple high-priority programs, including target and pathway evaluation. He previously helped build a cytotoxic ADC platform that was spun out to Zymeworks as Zymelink technology. His research spans chemical biology, biologics, and conjugates, driven by a commitment to improving treatments for cancer and life-threatening infectious diseases.
